Story behind the song
Dedicated to the memory of my mother, Irene, on her first postumous anniversary, the 80th. She's departed two months ago. The music expresses my grief, rememberance, and other feelings which I cannot find names for. Maybe you can help. The piece is still very wanting at various levels. It's what I was able to concretize in the short spans of freetime on two months of my frantic, pathetic life. The first part includes ideas from some 30 years ago, when I was a teen still living with her. Happy times. Hint for the form of this song: she liked to waltz. The lyrics express the "two sorrows" explained in the elegy I wrote and read at the funeral (reproduced in the blog). The second part is clearly a sketch for a "Grand Requiem" for full orchestra. This surely will be under construction for a long time. Personally it connects to the memory of other beloved deads, including my father Marius (1909-1968) and his brother my uncle Rafael (1912-1983). Morning for Irene has lead me to these thoughts. So, this second part, lyricless, and the planned Grand Requiem, goes out to all beloved deads of all people. I sing and play the recorder here. The rest is by computer. So, this is very much open to collaboration. Any comments very welcome. Thanks.
Lyrics
('Cause I haven't coped with it yet.) Oh, mother, why did you leave before the end? Oh, mother, the universe didn't understand! Oh, mother! Mother! Ah!

Really touched by this! Has a wonderful emotional bond and what a lovely musical journey...a bit of Floyd but possibly a bit of Kansas too, topped off with Mr. Duran himself :) Great writing Michael...nice job presenting your love for your mother through your vocals also!!!
