Story behind the song
The lyric challenge was to write about a teacher. Since I couldn't think of any of my own teachers who were especially inspirational to me, I chose 2 women I've always admired
Lyrics
In the Light of Words
Copyright October 6, 2006 Corinne Curcio
Verse 1
For one brief summer
Filled with bird song
Fragrant roses
And the sweetest fruit
One autumn, my eyes
Beheld gold and crimson
But then illness came
And took terrible root
Verse2
“Light, give me Light”
My wordless cry
Silence and darkness
Lay all around me
But I stretched out my hand
And you were there
With knowledge and vision
And love to surround me
Rise 1
They said “You’ll never reach her”
But they don’t know you, my Teacher
Chorus
(‘Cause) In the Light of Words
Everything we think and feel
Can be known and heard
And intangibles become real
You gave me the key
It unlocked the world for me
In the Light of Words
You set my spirit free
Verse 3
Nature the schoolroom
Where I learned the lessons
Of my connection
With all living things
Speaking with fingers
I now had a voice
And read what for others was
The truth that rings
Rise 2
With gentle guidance, you illuminate
And help my soul to radiate
Chorus
Bridge
Tree -It has a name
Bird- It has a name
Water- It has a name
Your loving touch awakened in me
A life of possibility
Chorus
