Story behind the song
I was watching a lot of violence on TV. Bierut and Sarajevo stuck in mind. This was before Grozny. I get so affected when I see the buildings all shot out.

Lyrics
the Master/21st Century
the Master is gone
you dream of factories
bodies on steel racks
there's no satisfaction
you run, you get nowhere
you fly over a palace
you stand at the shoreline
screaming 'I am blameless...'
the Master is gone
there's tanks in the square
which side they belong to
is neither here nor there
the people are hungry
they're down on their knees
the snipers are busy
in the rooftops and the trees
the Master is gone
and nobody cares
the men hug the fire
it doesn't matter where
they polish their rifles
and dry out their boots
they pass around the bottle
and share out the loot
the Master is gone
you can't take the pain
you close the curtains
turn on the radio again
you hear yourself speak
you don't believe what you say
you write ten angry letters
and you throw them all away
the Master is gone
his books fill your shelves
you look at them sometimes
but you just can't find yourself
you can see the horizon
the sky is glowing red
the rockets leave an acrid smell
you try to get to bed
Welcome - to the 21st Century
Welcome - it's such a beautiful day
Welcome - we make everything available
Welcome - and we would love you to stay
Nobody knows how much trouble we take for your...
Pleasure - in the 21st Century
Pleasure - a million Dollars a day
Pleasure - we can make you so comfortable
Pleasure - you will never go away
Nobody knows how much pleasure we take in your...
Trouble - in the 21st Century
Trouble - but we never hold a grudge
Trouble - the machines are so meticulous
Trouble - we counsel and we judge
Nobody knows where we were before we were initialised
Everyone must get a chance as we spin around.....
the Master is gone
the churches are closed
the streets are deserted
the winter wind blows
the frost is thick
your patience is thin
how hard is your heart?
could you let him back in?
