"Where Is Our Sea, Blue Shining Sea"?
The devastating Deepwater Horizon oil disaster has killed 11 men, thousands of birds, hundreds of endangered and threatened sea turtles and dozens of marine mammals. We dedicate this song to them.
I have proven that I can write hit songs 11 of my songs hit the The Independent Music Networks Charts in the top 10 on both their Mainstream Country Charts...
Story behind the song
When I wrote "Where Is Our Sea, Blue Shining Sea"? after watching a news program and I saw a fisherman crying because he had lost everything and didn't know what he was going to do to survive, it was the only way he earned a living most of his life. I was also saddened by the lost of the 11 men who died and the wildlife that was being found dead or drying... It all was so upsetting it caused me to cry when I saw and heard about everyone/thing being affected by the Oil spill. After I wrote the song and melody I turned it over to Nelson Blanchard my Grammy Nominated music producer and Louisiana Hall Of Fame inductee. I had originally had it to a more up-tempo melody. Nelson called me and suggested a more ballad type melody made the change, I am so glad he did. (Where would I be without him ) Nelson also performs the vocals. We also needed an intro for the song so he ask his friend Mr Scott Innes (Scooby Doo fame) CMA Award for Air Personality of the Year winner and Marconi award if he would like to join us on the song and perform the intro. He was glad to do so. Both Scott and Nelson perform the intro and so Where Is Our Sea, Blue Shining Sea came to be..a great collabaration by all.
Lyrics
Verse 1
The oil rig exploded at night
Eleven men lost their lives
The broken well turned.... the blue gulf to red
It's fish and wildlife are dead
The bayous, lakes and inlands
Have all been blackened... where's the white sand
This was all caused.. by the hands of man
Chorus
They can't blame this on the weather
This time we must work together
To help all those who suffer... from this tragedy
See the fishermen crying
Their livelihood is dying
This is not how it was meant to be
Why must men act so foolishly
Where is our sea... blue shining sea
Verse 2
When Katrina cut her path
Many felt her winds of wrath
Death and destruction everywhere
So many lives... left in despair
This time the tragedies they'll withstand
Arising from their own oil-soaked land
Were all caused.... by the hands of
Chorus
They can't blame this on the weather
This time we must work together
To help all those who suffer... from this tragedy
See the fishermen crying
Their livelihood is dying
This is not how it was meant to be
Why must men act so foolishly
Where is our sea... blue shining sea
Bridge
How long will the oil remain
On the beautiful Gulf Coast it has claimed
Will it ever be the same
Chorus
They can't blame this on the weather
This time we must work together
To help all those who suffer... from this tragedy
See the fishermen crying
Their livelihood is dying
This is not how it was meant to be
Why must men act so foolishly
Where is our sea...Where is our sea..
Where is our sea.. blue shining sea
