Trash-pop, guitar rock and melodic miscellany.
Not so much a band as a bloke with a guitar and a laptop, The Smivets deliver a genre-bending blend of pop, rock, punk, prog and many other monosyllables.

Story behind the song
The terrifying nightmare of daily life, while the universe spins heedlessly on. Bit long for an opening track, but stick with it if only for the guitar solo at the end. An extended solo wasn't in the original plan - it was going to be much shorter using a different guitar. I set out to use a particular guitar just to add some extra rhythm bits and chords (which I eventually ended up deleting) but, as is often the case, left the tape rolling afterwards and kept noodling. Of course there is no tape and nothing actually rolls any more, but I kept the solo. A happy accident and ended up being one of my favourites.
Lyrics
When I woke I was on a high wire 100 foot drop Above a building fire One shoe missing And no idea How in the name of mercy I ended up here Oh Clenched my teeth Bit down the scream Surely that was consciousness And this is the dream What did I do To get this far? I must have had some kinds of skill But I don't know what they are Look at my galaxies, look at my stars Look at all my planets, Mercury and Mars Meanwhile my little world is fractured into shards Faces become blurry but the edges are sharp Look at my galaxies, look at my stars Look at all my planets, Mercury and Mars Meanwhile my little world is fractured into shards Faces become blurry but the edges are sharp Sail me back over the interstellar sea Spiral arms enfolding me Take good care wherever you need to be The morning star won't find me Oh Look at my galaxies, look at my stars Look at all my planets, Mercury and Mars Meanwhile my little world is fractured into shards Faces become blurry but the edges are sharp Look at my galaxies, look at my stars Look at all my planets, Mercury and Mars Meanwhile my little world is fractured into shards Faces become blurry but the edges are sharp

That tone is so in your face right out of the gate. Love the three-piece aesthetic and how full it sounds. And then the bridge - OMG. Chord changes that are utterly heart wrenching. Plus just when you think it's going to pop-song repeat we go all prog and evolve and build. Masterful writing and production and performances. Off to share this and listen again.
