Story behind the song
I was and am still frustrated with the higher education system in England, which obliges students to live close to the poverty line.
Lyrics
This is a poem about education. I take it that we're all educated here And we all know what it involves... People were stupid but we're alright now We got the right way to do it And we're showing you how Just put the peg here and pay the man there Don't move too far, don't get in our hair Real fine perception, we see the way clear We tolerate abuse, but the price is dear We make all decisions, but we make them for you Release my grip? Why? Your face is turning such a pretty shade of blue. (Featuring myself as Nod the Mad Geordie Poet - vocals performed at Newcastle University Students Union, 1982)
